Firefly CLEAN Lamp Oil is a Superior Alternative to Paraffin Lamp Oil – Odorless, Sootless & Smokeless. Available with Citronella Oil or Eucalyptus Oil

  • Less Expensive and much longer lasting than Paraffin Oil Lamp Fuel (Be sure to view the time-lapse videos)
  • Virtually ODORLESS
  • Clear and CLEAN Burning
  • Will NOT Freeze
  • Available pure, with Citronella Oil or Eucalyptus Oil
  • Great substitute to Paraffin Fuel
  • Available in a Variety of Sizes – 32 Ounces, 1 Gallon, 5 Gallons, 55-Gallon drums/barrels and 330-Gallon Totes
  • Smokeless When Used In Vessels That Utilize Small, Round Wicks (1/4″ or less) Or Flat Wicks (1″ or lesss) For Example… Liquid Oil Candles, Oil Lamps, Cold-blast Lanterns, Hurricane Lanterns, Diy Mason Jars, Etc.
  • If you are going to use in a large-wick device like a tiki torch, the fuel will produce some smoke and is not smokeless. Keeping the wick as low as possible will reduce fuel consumption and smoke.

One of our customers wrote about our CLEAN Fuel with Citronella Oil – “Your products are magnificent. I’ve used them in Candle Lanterns instead of wax candles and in small lanterns. Absolutely no smoke or soot. Exceptionally clean fuel. Thanks for making such a great product.”

Our Clear CLEAN Lamp Oil is a True Alternative

Firefly Fuel brings to market a new Clear, CLEAN fuel as a DIRECT REPLACEMENT for paraffin lamp oil.

Firefly CLEAN fuel is non-smoking, sootless, odorless, provides a great flame and is longer lasting than paraffin oil. Firefly CLEAN Fuel is just a simple, safe product.

Firefly CLEAN Lamp Oil is a direct replacement for paraffin fuel with the same operating characteristics (smokeless, odorless and clean-burning) plus many notable improvements.

• Firefly Clean Fuel Benefits vs. Paraffin Oil

• Less Expensive than Paraffin Oil

• Availability Always readily available.

• Increased Burn Times – In-house testing showed CLEAN fuel burned longer than our paraffin lamp oil for even greater economy (results may vary)

• CLEAN Lamp Oil will NOT freeze.

Available with Citronella Oil or Eucalyptus Oil

The base fuel is virtually odorless. The optional additives we offer to the base odorless fuel are Citronella and Eucalyptus oils. Both provide a fresh, mild scent from the bottle and oil hint when burning.

Firefly CLEAN Lamp Oil works well in oil lamps, lanterns and oil candles. It is not suggested for vessels that use a large wick like tiki torches as it will smoke.

I’d like to give you some important tips so that you can get the maximum performance from Firefly Fuels.

All Firefly Fuels require a wick to burn and are combustible, not flammable. Our fuels should not be used in vessels that require alcohol-based fuels.

1) Remove old residual fuel from the fuel reservoir before filling with Firefly Fuel. It doesn’t need to be dishwasher clean, but you certainly don’t want to mix fuels together. Mixing fuels will change their burning properties and may cause excessive smoke.

2) Use a clean wick. The wick is the delivery vehicle for the fuel. If the wick is contaminated with old fuel or water, it will not perform properly. In a pinch, if you only have one wick, the following steps have worked well for our customers. 1) Dry the wick as much as possible using a paper towel. 2) Soak the wick in Firefly Fuel until it is completely saturated. That’s it!

3) The wick should be as low as possible. This will reduce smoke, provide a more consistent flame and conserve fuel. When I say low, I mean just barely above the wick holder. Within 5 minutes your flame will reach its maximum height.

4) When we add citronella or eucalyptus oil to the fuel, it is for the purpose of helping to deter bugs. The base fuel is odorless; however, adding the oils provides a mild scent of either citronella or eucalyptus. For those wanting a stronger scent, we have designed 2 patented aromatherapy candles, the Zen and Zen Petite. These candles allow you to add essential oils to the “Aroma Deck” which throws the scent. The benefits are…1.) You will use considerably less essential oil to achieve a strong scent. 2.) You will not contaminate the fuel, and it will burn cleanly. 3.) You can easily change the scent.

5) FYI. Why is there a stream of smoke when blowing out a flame? This stream is vapor that has condensed into a visible form. It continues to form as long as the wick is hot enough to vaporize. If you touch a lit match to the stream, a flame will run down it and re-light the wick.

6) Excessive smoke can also be caused by wind which inhibits the fuel from completely burning.

7) If you are purchasing a 5-gallon container, Here is a BLOG POST showing how to install the spigot into the 5-gallon container for easy access.

This purchase I made of the Firefly Clean Lamp Oil has been outstanding , it gives a compfortable light with as little odor as I have found in any lamp oil ( and I have used many!) I would recommend this product to anyone who enjoys the lamplight or to just keep it for emergencies ! I also greatly appreciated the outstanding customer service follow up! Thank you!

Firefly Fuel emailed me prior to the arrival of my lamp oil. They wanted to remind me to open my product promptly to check for any leaks that may have occurred during transportation. Since I had just had that happen with a huge bottle of Tide, I understood what they meant!! The Tide was a mess!! Fortunately, the lamp oil was in perfect condition. They had cushioned it completely and it arrived with no leaks at all. I did appreciate their notifying me, prior to delivery, to check for such a potential problem. I haven’t burned any of the oil yet, and I hope I don’t have to for a while as my lamps are for emergency use only. It looks so nice and clear in my antique lamp. The lamp had some old oil that was gold in color. I don’t know if it had coloring in it or had turned from age, but it was UGLY!! Perhaps it was kerosene, I don’t know! It took hours of scrubbing and soaking to get it all out, but now my clear oil is crystal clear in the clean lamp and oh, so pretty!!

This Oil works great! I was wanting a cool, unique way to keep the mosquitoes away while I relax on my porch but also have a inside emergency light source / Romantic table light in the house. I bought a oil lantern and researched and found this oil and this oil fits the bill! No smoke visible, no foul odor, and smells great when not burning. Whlie sitting in my rocker on the porch, I wanted to see how well it works. I started getting a few mosquitos flying around me, so I lit the lantern and within a few minutes, there was nothing flying around me, no mosquitoes, no flies! Makes it very pleasant to sit and relax and enjoy the pleasures of nature without the pests!

I haven’t used Kerosene type oil lamps in years, but after this last hurricane with no electricity, thought it was time to buy these items again. I have tested my new Dietz Oil Lamp with the Firefly Clean Lamp Oil. I am pleased with the Firefly lamp oil, the scent is very mild and low odor, I did not have any problem with smoking and it did not bother my occasional allergy issues. I plan to purchase this product again.

My daughter had just returned from a school trip to colonial towns in the eastern seabord with a glass blown oil lamp. Not knowing what to add to the lamp to light it, I searched amazon and came across this wonderful find. Works wonderfully. No odor or smoke and it burns for a long time. So happy to have found this product:)

I waited several weeks to post review because I wanted to see if this oil works. It does. I decided to put it in the “plugin” containers with the electric warmer so I wouldn’t have to worry about refilling, open wicks and etc. I almost threw away the empty plugin containers and then I thought of this. I know I’m not supposed to use this oil indoors, but I’m in MidTN and bugs here are abundant. All kinds. I was miserable being bitten by bugs inside my home. Now I keep finding bugs laying around all dead in my apartment. I tried using the UV lamp but the one I bought off Amazon wouldn’t attract any bugs. It just looked pretty, lol! I don’t know exactly how this oil works but it doesn’t burn like others. It’s very subtle even when I use the traditional oil-over-candle burner which I haven’t used indoors anymore. It’s thin but a little amount goes a long way. This oil doesn’t have any smell to me and it doesn’t make me or my dogs sneeze all the time like the citronella candles do. Forget about the burning coils. Those are a disaster. I sure wish I would’ve found this oil maaaaany years ago.

  7. Andrev – Amazon Review

I go back and forth between liquid paraffin during the warmer months for the low oder and lamp oil in the Winter months at my remote cabin as it does not freeze. Liquid paraffin gels or freezes and lamp oil produces much too much oder, almost asphyxiating. Until now, I had not found any oil that will not gel up or is oder free. The firefly lamp oil produces a very faint oder, but it’s really almost unnoticeable. Although it has not been cold enough to really put it through the test this year yet, the Firefly oil did stay completely liquid at 10 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, I did notice the burn times to be significantly longer than the other oils and paraffins I have used in the past and it really does burn clean. I usually end up cleaning my globes every day, but went a full seven days before I noticed a very faint white soot on the inside of the globes after I started using the Firefly clean lamp oil. I will continue to purchase Firefly clean lamp oil for lighting my cabin.

5.0 out of 5 stars – Find me those old lanterns!

My mom brought me two Dietz lanterns that were once used by her father. He used them in the winter to put in the pump house to keep the pipes from freezing. He also burned kerosene in them and over the years they became quite dirty. After he passed away, my mom used them as decorative pieces on the mantel of the fire place and they haven’t been used in 40 years. They were in very good shape, for their age, and I spent some time taking them apart and cleaning them. I didn’t want to restore them to “brand new” condition as I thought that the paint scuffs and other age related imperfections gave them a bit more character. After getting them functional again, I decided to use this particular fuel by Firefly in the hopes that it would be better for the lanterns instead of using kerosene. I also didn’t want to deal with smoke getting everything dirty again and the smell of kerosene isn’t exactly pleasant. I’m happy to say that this fuel has worked amazingly well for the old lanterns. It has no odor and only produces smoke if I start raising the wick really high. It was amazing to see the lanterns working again and as a kid, I thought that they were only non functioning decorative pieces. We probably spent a few hours in the garage this evening watching them glow and talked about our grandfather, as well as, the history of these particular lanterns. Now I’m on the hunt for another lantern that I remember seeing hanging on the wall of one of our old barns back home. If I do find it, and I can get that one fixed up again, I will definitely be using this fuel in it as well.

The fuel arrived professionally packed and free of spills. I opened it up first thing and I was pleased that the smell wasn’t overwhelming. I am mostly happy other than the amount of smoke it puts off. I wouldn’t consider this “clean burning” though. There was tons of soot billowing out and left quite a bit of residue on the Tiki lamp. I am using the fuel in my table top Tiki torches outside on my patio but wouldn’t recommend using this indoors without ventilation. The scent is nice and I think the product works alright. I feel like I have to fill up the can every use so my only complaint is that it may evaporate faster than others I’ve used.
Would recommend for outdoor use only.

Worked great in my antique kerosene lantern. Virtually odorless. I did learn that if your lantern previously had kerosene or another fuel in it, it may take a while for the old fuel smell to burn off. Even though I completely emptied the fuel tank and put in a brand new wick, the lantern still smelled of kerosene when I burned the new fuel for the first few times I used it. It took about 5 or 6 hours of burn time over a couple of days to completely get rid of the residual kerosene smell from the old fuel.

I’m SO glad I kept looking for lamp oil! Thankfully, I found Firefly CLEAN Fuel Lamp Oil. It is exactly what my little (indoor) lamp needed. It truly is clean….BUT ONLY IF YOU KEEP THE WICK AT IT’S VERY LOWEST. If the exposed part of the wick is kept super-short (on my lamp it’s out BARELY a 16th of an inch!), there is absolutely no smoke. The oil has no odor at all, either. I’m very please with this purchase…and will not hesitate buying it again. Just remember: You’ve GOT to KEEP THE WICK LOW, LOW, LOW…lower than you’d expect. I have used this in the Dietz oil lantern (new, no other fuels used before) and I have had no issues. Quick light, no soot, a slight smell (not bad, just noticeable) at first, but that could be the new lanterns baking in as well. I will buy again and recommend to others.

We use clean lamp oil as part of our manufacturing process. This is a great product for our use, and the customer service is awesome!

  14. Light of Mine Rock Candles, LLC

Awesome products and awesome customer service!! Firefly fuels are all that we ever burn in our rock candles because it’s the BEST fuel we’ve ever found. Their Clean fuels burn cleaner and longer than anything else we’ve tried. I HIGHLY recommend Firefly fuels! Also, their Clean Eucalyptus fuel smells surprisingly nice. We LOVE it for mosquito control.

Great product. I use it for my tea lights candles (also from Firefly) and as advertised lasts about 4-5 hours. This is probably more about the wick than the oil but if the wick is exposed more than 1mm, black soot can be seen streaming from the flame. Ideal length of wick is about 1mm or a bit less for optimum burn time. No odor and flame is nice and elegant. It comes with a nozzle that makes pouring into small openings like the tea light easier.

  16. Iren Masot – Amazon Review

I used this stuff for an indoors hot-blast lantern, and for a refillable tealight. Then I made the mistake of getting an alternative product that claimed the same benefits at a lower price, and started getting more scents in the home from the fuel burning. In other words, don’t skimp and get this Firefly stuff instead. It still makes a little bit of smellyness, but it’s good to go for indoor use without being unpleasant, and is the best fuel there is for the task.

I have a camp on the Canadian border where the weather gets rather cold. I don’t have electricity so my primary lighting at night is oil lantern. Paraffin fuel is fine during warm months, but if it is anywhere below 32* F your paraffin oil is going to “freeze”. After a 5 hour drive to my camp I’m not looking forward to putting my six lanterns on the floor of my Jeep with the heat blasting for an hour to thaw them out. This fuel is odorless, and does “freeze” up like paraffin will in cold temperatures. I will be buying a 5 gallon jug on my next purchase.

I inherited an old oil lantern from my Uncle that I mainly use whenever I lose power or when I want some subtle light while on my patio at night. The oil that was in it was for outdoor use only. I wanted something that I could use indoors and outdoors, an oil that burnt clean, had no scent and didnt create a lot of soot. This product nails it and stands true to its claims. I would highly recommend this product to anybody. Well done.

I had come across a vintage Marswell Cold Blast #2 lantern which I wanted to use on a Covered Wagon. After cleaning out the old kerosene and removing the old wick which had fallen down inside, I started looking for a kerosene substitute. I found this product on Amazon and decided to try it.
This is the absolute best for old kerosene lamps! Burned flawlessly and no smoke whatsoever. Fantastic product and I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a kerosene substitute.
Also, the product arrived so quickly from this company. Wonderful customer service and great product!

I bought this for use in my oil lamps because I want to use them on a daily basis affordably. They add a charm you don’t get from electric lights. The gallon was promptly delivered by FedEx & included were tips for best use outcomes. It was east to fill the lamps with a funnel & wait until the new wicks absorbed the fuel before lighting. This fuel really does burn clean, without smoking & I’ll definitely reorder this brand–next time with citronella fragrance for summer evenings!
