Lovingly Caring for Your Firefly Oil Candles

Recommended Lamp Oil

We recommend using Firefly CLEAN Lamp Oil or Firefly Paraffin Lamp Oil because they are designed to burn very cleanly producing virtually no soot, smoke or odor. If you choose another brand, please select a high-quality pure liquid paraffin oil.

NEVER MIX FUELS as mixing will change the burning characteristics.

You want a combustible fuel, NOT a FLAMMABLE fuel. NEVER USE KEROSENE, ACETONE, ALCOHOL, GASOLINE or PAINT THINNER . Sorry for shouting but it’s important 🙂 and please do not use any kind of vegetable oil as it is not a proper fuel for your oil candle.

Wick Care

The wick is the highway for the fuel. Please be sure the wick is completely saturated before lighting it. If you light the wick before it is completely saturated, you will burn the wick and experience smoke.

Never let the fuel run dry as the wick will be compromised and doing so will significantly limit the lifetime of the wick. Wicks require trimming over time when you notice they are not performing properly. Simply, twist and push the wick through the collar and trim to the bottom of the scorched area. IMPORTANT: Untwist the wick before readjusting to the appropriate height, otherwise, your highway becomes a bumpy back road!

The height of the wick should be about 1/16” or less above the collar for the best performance. Flames grow after the initial lighting. Wait for 5 minutes.

Rethreading Your Wick

Oh No! You pulled the wick out of the collar, now what do you do? Easy!

Filling Your Candle

Hold the small plastic tab at the top of the funnel. Insert into the candle. Keep elevated above the candle neck. DO NOT rest the funnel on the candle neck as this will restrict the flow of fuel causing the fuel to potentially overflow making a real mess!

Burn Time

You can figure about 6-8+ hours per ounce of fuel. Firefly CLEAN will burn significantly longer than Firefly Paraffin or Safe & Green.

Additional Important Info

• DO NOT overfill your oil candle. Fill your oil candle 3/4 or less full.

• Never leave burning candles unattended

• The wick collar gets very hot. Let it cool for 10 minutes before touching.

• Lamp Oil is poisonous. Keep it in a safe place.

• Place your candle on a flat, stable surface away from any traffic.

Nice, clear view thru the glass. Just wish I’d ordered oil when I purchased it. Will order several more in the future.

  2. Sandy – Amazon Review

Love how clean it burns! Lasts longer than wax candles.

  3. Amazon Customer – Amazon Review

Beautiful, high quality product: I bought 5 of these to replace the jar candles that was used in our candelabra of our church. They are beautiful and everyone complemented on how beautiful they looked. Please see attached photo. I am very happy with these glass jars. They are high quality glass and they add style and beauty to our display.

Excellent customer service/support: When I bought these glass pillar candles I did not know that Firefly Fuel, Inc. is a small family owned business. After receiving the orders, the CEO emailed to thank me for being their customer and wanted to know if everything was satisfactory. I emailed him back to address a few problems that I encountered and to my surprised he responded within the same day. He personally resolved my problem quickly and made me felt valued. I am happy as a customer of their fine products and happy to support a small family business.

Looks great. Had a little trouble with the wick length, but nothing that the Honolulu Fire Department couldn’t handle. Seriously, these are very nice, and they look great at half the price of their competition.

  5. KarenH – Amazon Review

These “candles” are beautiful. I already had one, so ordered a couple more in different sizes to form a trio. Beautiful clean flame with zero scent – which is sometimes really nice, especially for those with allergies, or when you just don’t want scented candles interfering with other things – like your cooking or baking. Easy to refill, no smoking either while lit or after extinguishing, and no drippy wax mess.

  6. Captain G – Amazon Review

Bought 2 candles, extra wick and fuel. They work great with no black smoke and no dripping wax. She loves them on the table in our covered patio, where they are sitting on a base of sand in large glass chimneys that keeps the breezes from disrupting the flame. I appreciate not having the messy job of trimming our old wax candles when the flame burns down into the middle of them. Also, since we live in the hurricane zone, I’m looking forward to having something that lasts longer than regular candles — the gallon of fuel should last for weeks. However, adjusting the length of the wick to get the proper flame takes a little practice. Keep some old tweezers handy.

Will use this product every day. It is very economical. We were buying jar candles every week. I also bought the oil die from this same company to change the color seasonally. Highly recommend.

  8. Bo – Amazon Review

This fun clear glass candle as well as the supplies I ordered to go with it arrived in perfect condition and is exactly what I hoped it would be. I am so pleased with the quality and performance of this candle that I will be ordering several more in different sizes. Excellent job Firefly Fuel.

  9. Don – Amazon Review

We replaced our wax 7 day candle at our church with this 6 inch refillable glass pillar candle. I first set the wick at 1/8 inch, but noticed a little black smoke every once in a while, so then I set the wick at 1/16 of a inch and then there was no more black smoke and still had a nice size flame. Make sure you use high-quality pure liquid paraffin lamp oil. We light this candle awhile before the service and then put it out after the service, by doing so one fill of oil will last a good part of the church year.

  10. Jeremy – Amazon Review

These are exactly as advertised and work very well. Fill with something flammable. Light. Enjoy. I haven’t timed them to see the fuel consumption rate yet. Suffice to say, you’ll probably die of old age long before they run out of fuel. If you burn it in the evening while watching TV or whatever, it’ll burn for about two weeks, maybe more. Many reviews complain about “smoky operation” or some such nonsense. Here is how to use your “candle” and adjust your stupid wick: Fill with liquid fuel of choice. Can be anything from the manufacturer’s recommended proprietary product to bacon grease. Light. Enjoy. There are three possible problems. All three happened to me because I don’t like to read instructions. Flame will not stay lit or cannot light candle. Wick is too low. Bring it up a tiny amount. Try again. Flame is too tall and smokes. Wick too high (duh), push it down a tiny amount. Try again. Tweezers work surprisingly well for this. The wick adjustment from too low to too high is about a millionth of an inch. Once you get it in the sweet spot leave it alone. The sweet spot will be lower than you think. Mine are set to where you can juuuussssst barely light them. As the candle heats up it produces a perfect little flame.

If you are experiencing all kinds of problems and nothing works you’ve filled your candle too full, the metal wick holder thing is immersed in fuel and is boiling it. (ask me how I know) Fuel leaks everywhere, stinks up the house, flame will NOT light for crap. Nothing will work. Easy solution. Dump 1/2″ or so of the fuel in the candle back into your fuel bottle. Fuel can not touch the wick holder.

Good product. Well worth the money. Should last….forever.

  11. Amazon Customer – Amazon Review

I ordered this Glass Pillar Candle from Firefly Fues/Amazon for use with a Stained Glass Centerpiece. It is absolutely spectacular. The type of light that it produces is ideal. I had decided not to use a regular candle as I did not want any wax getting on the stained glass. I also tried using a LED candle. It was not bright enough. This was the absolute best solution. Thank you to Firefly Fuel.

  12. musicandrea – Amazon Review

These candles are beautiful and come with good instructions from Firefly. They even come with their own funnels for filling. An elegant and clean addition to my fireplace instead of running the gas burners.

  13. NashGatorGirl – Amazon Review

I bought this refillable pillar for a centerpiece I have on my dining table. I love it. It was so easy to fill and it burns beautifully. I was afraid a real candle would make a serious mess as it melted down into the glass cylinder of my centerpiece… now I have no fear of that – the only clean up I have now is the occasional dusting! Will prob buy more of these for around the house to replace some of my messier wax candles.

  14. Amazon Customer – Amazon Review

Met all expectations and is the best value for money option I’ve seen (I’ve bought similar candles from two other companies). Wicks burn perfectly—just like a regular candle which is not the case w/other brands. Prompt delivery and my second order was delayed by just one day and I received a notice of that delay so great communication from the company. I’ve also purchased their coloring tints so a single candle can be whatever color you choose and you can change color when you want.

  15. A. Asher – Amazon Review

I LOVE these! They look so neat! It takes a couple tries to figure out the proper wick height – i used a paperclip to help me get the wick back in when it fell out. Once you get used to it, using these is a breeze and so much less wasteful than disposable candles. And they burn steady without flickering which is key if you plan to use them for after dark lighting. Planning to purchase some of these as gifts for my candle loving friends. . Lady Bastet approves.

  16. mjrodney – Amazon Review

I purchased 4 of these oil candles for emergency lighting purposes and I am impressed with the amount of light they produce. In my 13′ x 23′ great room, ONE of these candles produces enough light with Firefly oil to enable me to wander about that room with utter abandon, and place it a foot or so in front of your favorite book and you can read comfortably. I imagine that lighting all 4 at once would be suitable to illuminate the ball that drops on New Year’s Eve in Times Square. This is, and in conjuction with Firefly’s lamp oil, a product worth your attention. Thanks, Firefly, for a quality product.
